Jane’s Top Five:
Favorite Romance Novel Plots
5. Mommy and Daddy romances
These books usually involve a single parent who falls for someone who teaches/tutors/takes care of their kid. The Sound of Music is a Classic example. Nun comes to watch kids for a widower and marries him.
4. “We are married. Now what?”
This plot covers arranged marriages, mail order brides, and all other scenarios where two people who don’t know each other get married.
3. “But you are supposed to be with…”
This occurs when one character is trying to set another character up with someone else and ends up falling for them.
2. Best Friends
This plot involves best friends who go about their daily lives not realizing they are in love with each other until the relationship is threatened.
1. “I just want your genes.”
This is my all time favorite plot line. Two people pair up because one needs/wants a baby. My favorite example of this is A Year And a Day by Virginia Henley. Lynx wants a baby so he is hand fasted to Jane to try to get one.
