Review of Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief

Summary- Percy Jackson learns he is a demi God and is sent on a quest that will take him to the bowels of Hades.

My rating- B

Everyone told me that since I am a huge Harry Potter fan I needed to read the Rick Riordan books. I did enjoy them. But they are not as much like Harry Potter as I expected.

I saw the Lightning Thief movie before I read the book. I wish I hadn’t. It made the beginning of the book a bit slow as I already knew which God Percy belonged to.

I really enjoyed the quest that Percy went on and all the references in the book to mythology. Riordan is amazing at world building.

I didn’t love that Percy tells the story. I’m not sure why that didn’t work for me. But, it didn’t.

I did like the characters who follow Percy on his quest. Grover is hilarious and Annabeth was a fun character. I hope I can like Percy a little more as I continue to read the series. He was hard for me to really like.

Overall, this book was a fun read. I don’t consider it on the same level as Harry Potter (not many books are) but it is definitely worth the read.
