Summary: A Gift From Bob is the story of a friendship between a cat named Bob and James. Life hasn’t been easy for James. He has been homeless and addicted to drugs. Then, Bob changed his life and helped him get clean and off the streets. This book talks about a Christmas they shared and how Bob helped change James’s perspective of Christmas.

My Rating: 4/5

I received this book via the Goodreads Giveaway program.

If you love animal stories you will probably enjoy this book. The writing is decent and the story is heartwarming. There are several books in this series about Bob and this is the only one I have read but I will probably read more. Even if you have never read any others in the series this book was easy to follow. I did not feel lost at any point.

James is a decent character and I felt for his plight. It is great to hear stories of people overcoming hardships and James is pretty sympathetic.

I do think that this book is best for older readers (maybe 14 and up) because of the issues with James drug addiction. He doesn’t go into too much detail about his addiction but it is referenced. The writing is fairly simple and was probably something I could have read by third or fourth grade which is why I mention the content.

It is hard to read this book and not absolutely adore Bob the street cat. There are some truly amazing animals in this world and Bob is one of them.

I wished the book was a bit longer but overall I really enjoyed it.
